I am delighted to launch Habren, which represents the formal culmination of two years of joint working between the University of Glamorgan and Grŵp Gwalia Cyf. The company will work with partners, such as local authorities, to ensure that people with dementia have choices about where they live and that the support provided and accommodation are of the highest possible quality.
I am particularly pleased to note that the accommodation allows couples to stay together, something that is not usually available in traditional forms of accommodation and this continuity is so important as many couples may never have spent time apart.
Ensuring that staff are equipped with up to date knowledge and skills to support clients and their carers is critical to success and I am confident that the training programme will ensure support workers are able to undertake new and enhanced roles. This is very much in line with the Assembly’s proposals for the future of health and social care and the education, lifelong learning and skills agendas.
Habren represents a real improvement and brings support for people with dementia into the 21st century.

Habren aims to meet the gaps in provision for people living with dementia and their families. Habren will work
with like-minded partners and agencies to offer high quality, innovative support services, and to ensure that sound, robust
research and service delivery are integral to all developments. Appropriate education and training will be provided to all
staff, ensuring that they provide skilled care and support.
Habren, partner agencies and service users will work together
to provide choice and promote independence, enabling active participation in sustainable communities.
